Uttarakhand: CONG state media in-charge told UCC the mirror of BJP’s divisive policy, said – UCC will not benefit the state

Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress senior leader and media in-charge Rajeev Mehrishi has accused the BJP government on the issue of Uniform Civil Code, saying that BJP is trying to create division and division in the society on this pretext. He warned that the BJP should stop playing with fire, otherwise it is bound to get burnt in that fire. In a statement released today, Maharishi said that there is no need for a Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand. The BJP had brought this Shigufa only for political gains, now there is no justification for it, nor is this law going to do any good to the state. He asked the government to clarify as to how the entire exercise would benefit the state. Instead of devoting its energy in futile talks, the BJP government should focus on the welfare of the people. The government is not paying any attention to the burning issues of stopping migration from hilly areas, how people can get relief from back-breaking inflation, how youth can get employment, how to improve the condition of women, laborers and farmers, and they are trying to divert the public’s attention. For this, a wall of division is being erected in the society in the name of Uniform Civil Code.
Maharishi insisted that the State is not going to get any benefit from the Uniform Civil Code. This is just a mirror of BJP’s divisive policy. It wants to serve its political interests by erecting a wall of division between people who have been living together for a long time. Ultimately this will only harm the state. He said that if the UCC was so necessary, the Congress would have implemented it during its tenure, but in order to maintain the harmony of the society, instead of this unnecessary issue, the Congress gave priority to public welfare, while the BJP, to cover up its failures, tried to hide such sensitive issues. Unnecessarily giving importance to The Maharishi said that there are practical difficulties regarding UCC due to social diversity in India, state interference in personal matters. Now is neither the right time nor the need to bring this law. If any section of the society is considering UCC as an encroachment on religious freedom, then the BJP should address their concerns as well.
He said that the government should make it clear that even without the draft coming, many apprehensions have arisen in the minds of the people. These concerns are very serious, so the BJP will have to answer the basic questions like what will be the criteria for marriage and divorce? What will be the adoption process and consequences? What will be the right to maintenance or division of property in case of divorce? And what should be the rules of inheritance of property? On the contrary, without releasing the draft, without spreading it in the society, BJP leaders are unnecessarily beating the drum of UCC. Surely this will be fatal for him and he will have to pay the price in next year’s general elections. Giving unsolicited advice, he said that BJP should work for inflation, unemployment and social justice, try to make life difficult for the citizens, punish the killers of daughters like Ankita and not create disintegration in the society.
