TMC dominates West Bengal Panchayat elections, BJP gains in Shubhendu’s bastion, know results so far
The results of the three-tier panchayat elections in West Bengal are coming continuously. The counting started from 8 am on Tuesday and the process of getting the results continues till the second day i.e. Wednesday. The power of the ruling party is being seen in the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad. In the results of all the three elections, pro-TMC candidates have won overwhelmingly. The BJP candidate has won on the second number.
Voting was held for 74 thousand panchayats in West Bengal on 8th July. During this, there was a lot of violence and incidents of fighting, booth looting and arson at polling booths came to the fore. On July 10, the Election Commission decided to hold re-polling in 697 booths in 19 violence-affected districts. On July 8, 19 people had died in violence-related incidents. So far 39 people have died in the violence in Bengal. Results are coming for 63229 Gram Panchayat, 9730 Panchayat Samiti and 928 Zilla Parishad seats in the state.
TMC’s control in Zilla Parishad
According to the latest results in the West Bengal Panchayat elections, the Trinamool Congress is dominating. BJP is at number two. Out of total 928 Zilla Parishad seats, Trinamool Congress has won 608 seats so far. TMC is leading in 180 seats. BJP has so far won 19 Zilla Parishad seats. Moving on to 8. Whereas, CPM has won two seats and is leading in one seat. Congress has won 6 seats so far and is leading in 6.
Good performance of BJP in Shubhendu’s stronghold
This time the BJP has performed well in Shubhendu Adhikari’s bastion of Nandigram and East Midnapore as compared to other places. In Nandigram, more gram panchayats have come under the control of BJP than TMC. However, there was a disappointing performance in North Bengal, considered a stronghold of the BJP. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won all the eight seats in North Bengal. While in the 2021 assembly elections also, the BJP got great success in North Bengal. However, compared to the 2018 Bengal Panchayat elections, BJP has performed well this time.
‘It will take time to get the complete result’
The counting of votes in the West Bengal Panchayat elections is still going on. Now it will take time to get the complete result. CPM and Congress got slightly better results in Murshidabad and Malda.
