Rain continues to wreak havoc in Uttarakhand, many roads closed due to landslides, 413 crores received from Center under disaster head, Dhami expressed gratitude to the Center

Rain continued at various places in Uttarakhand on Wednesday as well and during this time three persons died due to drowning in the river. State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for releasing Rs 413 crore for the state under disaster head.

Police said that three out of five persons drowned in Kotdwar of Pauri district on Tuesday night when a car went out of control and fell into the rain-swollen Khoh river. Two other people in the car got out safely. SDRF has recovered the body of one of the three drowned in the river and search is on for two others. The deceased person has been identified as 35-year-old Muhammad Israr, a resident of Kiratpur area of Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.

Landslides at five places

Due to landslides due to incessant rains, many routes including national highways have been closed, due to which the Char Dham Yatra is also being affected along with public life. The Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district has been closed at five places between Chamoli and Joshimath due to landslides and falling debris. Chamoli’s Additional District Information Officer Ravindra Negi said that the administration has kept the pilgrims visiting Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib at safe places in Gauchar, Karnprayag and Nandprayag.

According to the information received from the State Emergency Operation Center, the Yamunotri National Highway is blocked due to landslides in Dharasu and Kalyani, while the Gangotri Highway is also closed due to debris between Pakodanala and Dharali. The Border Roads Organization is trying to open the road by removing the debris. Rudraprayag highway is also closed due to landslide in Sirobgarh. Meanwhile, CM Dhami on Wednesday once again urged people to avoid unnecessary travel in view of the incessant rains in the state and said that his government has issued disaster relief phone numbers to help the stranded people.
