US: Danger still looms in Vermont, possibility of heavy tornado even after flood; People are being alerted
The US city of Vermont brought some respite on Thursday from heavy flooding as people were seen managing their homes and damaged belongings. However, it is still expected that the city may face another storm or even a severe tornado. Recent floods damaged thousands of homes, businesses and roads.
For the time being, no rescue operations were required in the state and all roads were reopened as soon as the flood water receded. However, it is feared that once again a severe storm is going to hit the state, due to which the situation may become serious. Due to this storm, there may be floods once again, which will cause a lot of destruction. Also, it is being told that there may be more heavy rains in the state over the weekend.
Flood may come once again due to devastating tornado
National Weather Service meteorologist Seth Kutikoff said, “We are very concerned for Sunday, because that day there could be even more widespread and heavy rain than we have seen so far.” Scott said Vermonters would have to be vigilant and avoid going near any rivers or oceans. “We have seen many pictures on social media of children swimming in flood water. It is not normal rain water but it is mixed with chemicals, oil, waste and many more, which is not safe at all,” he said.
Residents have been alerted
New Hampshire can also come as a storm disaster. Robert Buxton, director of the state’s Homeland Security and Management agency, said, “We are doing our best to provide information to residents and campers especially in campgrounds along rivers and streams and in low-lying areas if evacuation is needed.” So what to do?” Authorities in other New England states to the south, including Connecticut, prevented boaters and others from approaching the Connecticut River and warned of heavy debris, including large trees.
Earlier in 2011, the disaster, which was considered the worst natural disaster since the flood of 1927, killed dozens of people and caused widespread destruction. However, no injuries or deaths have been reported in the current floods.
Many railway services suspended
Transport officials are going to survey the flooded areas so that the damaged services can be resumed. In particular, care will be taken that no railway line remains unrepaired in it. For the time being, Amtrak and other railroad service has been suspended.
Steps taken to help
Scott said he has submitted a request for a major disaster declaration to President Joe Biden. “This is separate from the federal emergency declaration that the president has already signed,” he said. Spokeswoman Evelyn Prime said, “Cleanup of the catastrophic floodwater damage to City Hall is expected to take several months. Because of this, City Hall will remain closed until further notice.”
Help was offered, including free food from an animal shelter in Morrisville and the establishment of a Vermont Main Street Flood Relief Fund to help small businesses. In addition, the Vermont Community Foundation established a fund to help individuals and communities with their long-term efforts.
An annual concert, Do Good Fest in Montpellier, will be livestreamed and act as a fundraiser. “One defining truth about Vermont is that Vermonters care for each other,” said Dan Smith, CEO of the foundation.
