Wimbledon 2023: Djokovic will face Alcaraz in the final match, enters the Grand Slam final for the 35th time

World number two Novak Djokovic of Serbia on Friday defeated Janic Sinner of Italy 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4) to reach the final of the third Grand Slam Wimbledon for the fifth time in a row. With this, he has become the first player to reach the final of Grand Slam for the 35th time. Djokovic will now face world number one Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the title match on Sunday.

Match with Alcaraz

Alcaraz reached the final of the tournament for the first time after defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the other semi-final. The 20-year-old Alcaraz is only the fourth young player of the Open era to reach a Wimbledon title match.

Alcaraz maintained the lead from the beginning of the match and broke Medvedev’s serve six times. At the same time, if Djokovic, who is looking for his 24th Grand Slam, is successful in winning the final on Sunday, then he will match Margate Court, who has so many Grand Slams to his name.

Four-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic

Currently, Djokovic, who has won the most Grand Slams among men, is a four-time champion at Wimbledon. He had won here in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, while the tournament was not organized in 2020 due to Kovid-19.

If Djokovic manages to lift the Wimbledon trophy for the fifth time in a row, he will equal Roger Federer of Switzerland, who has won eight trophies here. Djokovic is only the third player of the Open Era after Federer and Ken Rosewall to reach the Wimbledon men’s singles final at the age of 36.

Sinner could not stop Djokovic

The 21-year-old Sinar failed to stop Djokovic. While Djokovic easily won the first two sets, Sinner challenged the Serbian in the third set. Djokovic was trailing 5-6 at one point in this set, but he won the next game and the result of the set came through a tie-breaker.

Alcaraz became the third player from Spain to reach the final.

Alcaraz, who defeated Medvedev unilaterally, is the third player from Spain to reach the final of this tournament. Before him, 1966 champion Manuel Santana and two-time winner Rafael Nadal have done so here.
