Supreme Court strict on the brutality in Manipur, said – ‘If the government remains silent, we will take action’, PM’s statement also came, said – ‘My heart is full of pain…, the guilty will not be spared’
The case of two women being paraded naked in Manipur has reached the Supreme Court. The apex court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and fixed July 28 as the date of hearing. The court has also sought a report from the Central Government regarding this entire incident and has instructed to take timely action. Here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reacted to the incident for the first time. He has assured strict action against the accused. The Supreme Court says that it is distressed about the video of two women being paraded naked. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has also asked the government to take strong action. The court says that such an incident is absolutely unacceptable and it is extremely sad. The Supreme Court has called it a violation of the constitution and human rights. Also warned that if the government does not do anything, we will take action.
The CJI said, ‘We are distressed by the video that surfaced yesterday. This is absolutely unacceptable and the time has come for the government to intervene and take some concrete action. It is not acceptable to use women as weapons to incite violence in an area of communal tension. This is an insult to the Constitution.
The CJI-led bench warned the judicial officers, ‘We have called you to convey our concerns… This is a violation of the Constitution and human rights. We give you some time to take action and nab the accused… otherwise we will have to take action.
Here, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has also assured action. He said, ‘The government is also worried about this incident. Such incidents are not acceptable at all. The court has also summoned reports from the central and state governments.
Main accused arrested
Manipur Police has made the first arrest in connection with the sexual assault of a Kuki woman. It is reported that the police has arrested the main accused Khuriyam Hero Das. The accused is seen wearing a green check shirt in the video. At present, the police is making inquiries. Apart from this, the police is also looking for the victims. Although, he has not filed a complaint yet, but his statements will prove to be very important.

PM Modi reacted to this incident in Manipur on the first day of the monsoon session. He said, ‘My heart is saddened by the incident in Manipur. The whole nation is ashamed. Such incidents are a stigma for the entire country and every countryman. PM Modi has spoken of strict action against the accused. “No one will be spared and the law will take appropriate action,” he said. They will never be forgiven.

What was the matter
The incident is being told of May 4 in Kangpokpi district. Police have registered a case of kidnapping, gang rape and murder in connection with the incident and have formed 12 teams to investigate. According to the police complaint, around 800 to 1000 people carrying weapons entered Bi Phanom village, ransacked and set houses on fire. Suspected troublemakers are being told from the Meitei organization.
During the attack, five villagers had fled towards the forest. Among them were two men and three women. Nongpok Sekmai police rescued all three and brought them to the police station. From here the mob abducted him. The mob immediately killed one of the men and forced the three women to strip. It is reported that a 21-year-old among these women was gang-raped and her 19-year-old brother, who went to save her, was killed.
