Uttarakhand: Cloudburst wreaks havoc in Uttarkashi, houses and roads damaged; Schools also closed

Heavy rains are causing havoc in Uttarakhand. About 250 national highways and roads have also been closed across the state due to landslides after heavy rains. There was a report of cloud burst in Purola village of Uttarkashi district late on Friday night. Many houses in the village have been damaged due to cloudburst.

Also many roads have been damaged. According to ANI report, there is a possibility of heavy damage due to cloudburst in Chhadakhadd village of Purola. SDM Devnad Sharma said that many houses, vehicles and roads were damaged in the cloudburst. They are trying to assess the damage caused and accordingly a detailed report will be prepared, he said.

The District Magistrate of Uttarkashi has also ordered closure of schools for Saturday following heavy rains in the area. Major rivers in the district are in spate and roads are also blocked due to falling debris. Passengers are stuck at various places due to the closure of roads.

In Uttarkashi district, the tourist cottages have been damaged and debris has also entered the premises of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Residential School in Gangnani under Barkot tehsil due to late night heavy rains. Landslides have also occurred in Chhadakhand due to cloudburst. Land erosion and debris entered some houses and shops.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the administrative team and SDRF personnel immediately reached the spot late night and took the affected people to safe places. There has been no loss of life in these incidents. Deputy District Magistrate Purola Devanand Sharma and Deputy Collector Barkot Jitendra Kumar are present at the spot along with police and administration and SDRF teams.

The District Magistrate, while taking immediate action, has also instructed to start smoothening all the services, assess the damage caused in these incidents and submit the report and distribute the permissible relief amount without delay.

Due to heavy debris on the Yamunotri Highway, there was heavy debris and stones on the Yamunotri National Highway due to heavy rains near Gangnani in Barkot. Due to this, due to the increase in the water of the drain here, there was waterlogging in Kasturba Gandhi Residential School. The children had to be taken to safer places at night.

SDRF and fire brigade teams were immediately sent to the spot in the night. A vehicle was also stuck amid heavy debris on the Yamunotri Highway in the morning. The highway is stalled at many places including Chhatanga. Passengers and local people are stranded on the route. Police and SDRF along with SDM, Tehsildar are deployed to take stock of the damage on the spot.

Actually this incident is of 3rd August. Where Herbertpur police got information about a fire in a house in Rambagh area. When the police reached the spot, they found the burnt body of an old woman inside. The owner of the house, Sanjay Singh Rana, identified the body as his wife Suresho Devi alias Vandana Rana. He was addicted to drugs and often used to demand money from his mother. There used to be a lot of quarrel between the two when the mother refused. The father told that Manmohan was missing from home since the incident. After which, he expressed doubt that maybe his son had committed the murder and set the room on fire. The police already suspected the son The police immediately registered a case against the son and started investigation. After which, on the night of 14 August, the police arrested Manmohan Singh from Kulhal area. During interrogation, Manmohan Singh confessed his crime. He told that he has been addicted to drugs for a long time. He has already gone to jail in drug smuggling and Arms Act cases. On the day of the incident, he had asked his mother for money for drugs. But his mother refused to give him money and also did not let him go out of the house. He fled with the money after the murder After which, Manmohan Singh, in anger, attacked his mother’s neck with a wooden stick kept in the house. Due to which she died on the spot. After the murder, Manmohan Singh wrapped the body in a mattress and set it on fire so that it appeared that the woman died due to burning. Manmohan fled on a motorcycle with 30 thousand rupees kept in the cupboard of the house and his clothes.
