Uttarakhand: Geeta Dhami inaugurated Jackie Memorial Football Competition, 30 teams are participating
The 50th Jackie Memorial Football Competition was inaugurated by Geeta Dhami, wife of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, at St. George’s College, a world-renowned educational institution in Mussoorie. Let us tell you that in 1972 the Late Jackie Gupta Memorial Football Tournament was started. Actually, Jackie, a student of St. George’s College, who was training at the National Defense Academy, was a brilliant football player. After his sudden demise, the college and family started organizing this football tournament in his memory. Today this competition has entered its 50th year.
Colorful programs were also presented by the college children on this occasion. Earlier, along with Geeta Dhami, coach of Indian football team Mahesh Gawali, technical head of Indian football coach and former player Arun Malhotra, who was part of the national football team, was welcomed by the principal with a bouquet on reaching St. George’s College.
Indian football team will touch the height
On this occasion, Geeta Dhami said that the Uttarakhand government is running many schemes for the talented players and she hopes that the Indian football team will touch heights in the coming times. She said that there has been a demand for the construction of Bhiladu Sports Ground in Mussoorie for a long time, for which she will hold talks with the Chief Minister.
30 teams participating in Jackie Memorial Football Tournament
Brother Ramesh Amalanathan, Principal of St. George’s College, told that 30 teams are participating in this competition. In which apart from local clubs, teams from various schools are participating. He said that today on completion of 50 years of Jackie Memorial, he is feeling proud. Indian team coach Mahesh Gawli said that the Indian football team has made a tremendous jump in the rankings. Sunil Chhetri is playing excellent football even at this age. He said that the Indian team will perform well in the coming times.
