Karnataka: Bail to all three girl students of Udupi College, arrest of BJP leader… What happened so far in the ‘Washroom Case’?

The washroom case that surfaced in Karnataka’s Udupi is slowly becoming high profile. The echo of this matter has reached the Chief Minister of the state, whereas, after commenting on it, a BJP leader has also been arrested. This case started in such a way that the videos of the girls from the washroom of the private paramedical college in Udupi went viral. In this case, three girls were suspended. They are accused of making videos of other girls hiding in the washroom and making them viral. The incident took place on 18 July and action was taken against the girl students on 20 July.

The latest news is that all the three accused girl students got bail today. Let us have a look at all the things that have happened after the matter came to light, the action taken and the police registering the case in this matter.

Girl students got bail

According to information, a magistrate’s court in Udupi on Friday granted conditional bail to three girl students accused of making a video of another girl student in the college toilet. On July 25, the Malpe police registered a case against the three girl students and the college management. On Friday, the girl students surrendered in the court of Additional Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate First Class Judge Shyam Prakash.

This incident took place on 18 July and an FIR was registered in the matter on 25 July. Police sources had said that an FIR was lodged against three girl students of a paramedical college in Udupi for allegedly recording a video of their fellow student in the washroom of the college. The FIR was registered at Malpe police station in Udupi. The names of three girl students Shabnaz, Alfia and Alima are included in the FIR. The college administration was also named in the FIR. The case was registered under sections 509, 204, 175, 34 and 66 (e) of the IT Act.

Video uploaded of the incident, police asked to avoid rumors

On behalf of the police, it was said that two separate suo moto cases have been registered in connection with the video recording in the washroom of Netra Jyoti Institute of Allied Health Sciences. A case has been registered against three girl students and the college administration for recording a private video of a girl student and later deleting it. The police have accused him of failure to produce details and evidence related to the incident which could damage the reputation of the victim.

A morphed video of the incident was allegedly uploaded on a YouTube channel, while a person tweeted it. On the other hand, this matter was also added by giving it a communal colour. However, the police appealed to the people to stay away from rumours.

BJP performed

Congress and BJP have come face to face regarding this washroom scandal. On July 27, the BJP protested in this matter. In Bengaluru, BJP Mahila Morcha workers staged a protest against the state government, demanding immediate action against three girl students for allegedly recording a video of their fellow student in the washroom of a paramedical college in Udupi.

BJP leader Shakuntala arrested

At the same time, on Friday, BJP leader Shakuntala was arrested by the Karnataka Police in Bengaluru. Shakuntala is accused of allegedly derogatory social media posts against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. In fact, a Congress leader tweeted that the BJP is using the Udupi case as a political weapon. Reacting to this post, Shakuntala wrote that if this had happened to Siddaramaiah’s daughter-in-law or his wife, would he have said the same?

The alleged derogatory posts against the chief minister were shared on Twitter and Facebook. After this, a complaint was lodged against Shakuntala at the High Grounds Police Station in Bangalore and the police arrested her after registering the case.
