Uttarakhand: Another attack on corruption, on the instructions of the CM, the state tax department raids the firms related to pharma business involved in GST evasion
In order to take strict action against tax evasion by the Chief Minister and Hon’ble Finance Minister, on 04.08.2023, the CIQ team of the State Tax Department, Uttarakhand inspected the total number of pharma manufacturing companies and pharma trading units of Roorkee, Haridwar and Dehradun. 09 units raided. The purchase of pharma packing material and other items by these firms was being shown from the units of Delhi, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Whereas, on confidential investigation, evidence of transportation of cheeks from these units is not found. Many of these ferns were non-existent or only bills were being issued to give the benefit of ITC by forming a chain.
On investigation, 04 firms were found non-existent and in the whole case, prima facie, a case of tax evasion of about 6.4 crores has come to light. The department has immediately taken action to block the ITC of these units worth Rs 243 crore and freeze their bank accounts. During the investigation, many firms have accepted their mistakes and deposited about Rs 30 lakh. Many firms evading tax through bogus billing are on the radar of the department.
