Preparations are underway to bring ‘One Country, One ID’ for school students, there will be a unique code for students like Aadhaar!
All efforts are being made by the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring uniformity in the country. Now preparations are underway to soon bring ‘one country, one ID’ for school students. Like Aadhaar, students will have a unique code. The consent of his parents is awaited for this. Let us tell you that this is a part of the new education policy, which has been adopted in 2020. The Union Education Ministry has planned to create ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ for every student from pre-primary to higher education. It is called Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR).
The Education Ministry has directed all states and union territories to start the process of creating APAR IDs for school students. AICTE Chairman TG Sitharaman said, “APAAR and National Credit Framework (NCRF) will be the new QR code for students across India. Every skill they have learned will be credited here.”
The state school education department has asked educational institutions to organize a meeting of parents and teachers between October 16 and 18 to discuss the importance of creating APAR IDs. The data captured on Aadhaar ID will be the basis of APAR ID. School heads said they are already struggling to update Aadhaar details of students on the portal.
A school principal said, “We are still correcting the mistakes in the names of students in their Aadhar cards. More than 19 lakh students across the state do not have Aadhaar cards. Another 40 lakh students have errors in name, gender and date of birth in their Aadhar cards. “More than 2 lakh students in Mumbai do not have Aadhaar cards and another 2 lakh students have mistakes in their cards.”
This will require parental consent. The government has assured that the data will remain confidential and will be shared only with government agencies where necessary. The parent who has given consent can withdraw it at any time.
After the consent of the parents, it becomes the responsibility of the school to upload it on the Central Unified District and Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) portal. Many schools have still not uploaded the student data for 2022-23 on the portal.
