During PM’s visit to Uttarakhand, Chholiya and Jhauda folk dancers performed with Dhol Damaun folk instruments, got a place in the World Book of Records
On the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Devbhoomi Uttarakhand on October 12, the performance of Chholia and Jhauda folk dancers of Uttarakhand along with Dhol Damaun folk instruments has got a place in the World Book of Records. Giving this information, the Director of Culture Department has informed that a unique and historical program was organized by the Culture Department, Uttarakhand at an astonishing height of 5338 feet (1627) meters above sea level in the border district Pithoragarh. This was the first program in the history of Uttarakhand in which about 3000 folk artists of Chholiya and Jhauda dance troupes from remote areas of Pithoragarh district attracted the world’s attention towards the historical and rich folk cultural heritage of Uttarakhand through their traditional costumes and folk songs. The world witnessed an extraordinary and unprecedented incident in the border district Pithoragarh, the heart of the Himalayas.
He said that about 3000 folk artistes of Chholiya and Jhauda dance troupes arrived from remote areas of the border district Pithoragarh, came equipped with their traditional costumes and jewelery to participate and during this time the entire Pithoragarh area was resounding with the tunes of folk songs and traditional folk instruments. Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi became emotional after seeing the rich folk cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. Pithoragarh district is famous for its natural beauty and peaceful environment. Here the high snow peaks of the Himalayas remain steadfast like a vigilant sentinel, while this border district of Uttarakhand has been the center of the largest gathering of Chholia and Jhauda folk dancers. Traditional folk instruments of Uttarakhand like Tun, Ranasingha, Nagfani, Chholiya Dhai and Talwar along with other folk instruments beautified the entire valley.
Director Culture said that in this program, a lively introduction to the vibrant and diverse cultures and shared heritage of thousands of folk artists coming from the border villages of Pithoragarh district was seen. Folk artistes displayed their talent and enthralled the crowd. The grand festival held in the backdrop of the Himalayan mountain range made it truly a remarkable and never seen before sight. In this program, the indomitable spirit of the traditional and historical folk cultural heritage of the border area was displayed. Folk artists came equipped with their traditional costumes and jewelery to participate and during this, the entire Pithoragarh area was filled with the tunes of folk songs and traditional folk instruments. .
He said that the successful implementation of this event is a proof of the foresight and dedication of the Culture Department, Uttarakhand and the Government of India. This huge gathering of folk artists at such a height shows their unwavering commitment towards the preservation and promotion of the unique culture of Uttarakhand.
