On the occasion of Police Memorial Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the martyrs of police and paramilitary forces at the Martyr Memorial in Police Lines, Dehradun by offering a floral wreath and also honored the families of the martyred police personnel of Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister made four announcements on this occasion. He said that in case of untimely death of police personnel during service, an amount of Rs 2 crore will be given to the Police Martyrs Welfare Fund to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the dependent family. Free annual health checkup of non-gazetted police employees will be conducted. In the next three years, a provision of Rs 100 crore will be made for housing of police personnel. Obstacles related to recruitment of dependents of deceased in the police department will be removed.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the responsibility of maintaining the internal security and law and order of the country lies with the police forces and paramilitary forces of the states. While fulfilling their responsibility, police personnel are ready to sacrifice their lives. The Chief Minister said that police system is an essential part of the security and prosperity of any state. The police of our state also work in accordance with the spirit of service and manage many challenges like drug addiction, cyber crime, crime against women, traffic system, Chardham Yatra, disaster, landslide, Kanwar Yatra etc. to maintain peace and law and order. This year too, Uttarakhand Police has made a commendable contribution in providing smooth travel and darshan to more than 4 crore devotees who have come for the Kanwar Yatra and about 50 lakh devotees who have reached the Chardham Yatra till now, reaching their destination safely. Tight security arrangements were ensured by Uttarakhand Police in the three meetings of the G-20 Summit held in the state.
The Chief Minister said that a target has been set to make Uttarakhand a drug-free state by 2025. For which a three-tier anti-narcotic force has been formed by the government under Uttarakhand Police. Moving forward in this direction, narcotic substances worth about Rs 40 crore have been recovered by taking action against more than 4 thousand drug dealers from the year 2021 till now. Strict laws have been brought to effectively curb crimes related to land mafia and copying mafia. To provide a safe environment to mothers and sisters in the state, “Women Help Desks” have been opened at every police station in the state. For women’s safety, Gaura Shakti module was created under Uttarakhand Police App, in which more than one lakh registrations have been done. Women counseling cells have been opened in every district for counseling in marital matters.
The Chief Minister said that realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of smart policing, Rs 57 crore has been approved by increasing the amount of Rs 36 crore for the construction of buildings to make the workplaces of police personnel and their barracks smart.
