Rules for smoking warning on OTT platform will remain the same, action will be taken if not followed
In movies and TV dramas, there are warnings against consuming alcohol, cigarettes or drugs. But these warnings have to be given in the OTT platform also. If this is not done then action will be taken.
The Central Government has said that all OTT platforms are required to strictly follow the provisions of OTT Rules 2023. Because it has become effective from September 1, 2023. The government has clarified that the rules related to cigarettes and tobacco products on OTT will remain the same.
Action will be taken if rules are not followed
The central government has said that the rules will not be changed under any conditions. The smoke warning rules will remain the same for all OTT streaming services. At the same time, the ministry also warned of taking action if the rules are not followed.
Rules applicable from 1 September 2023
Considering public health as a primary issue, the Central Government has expanded the cigarette and other tobacco product film rules to be applied on OTT platforms also. OTT rules have come into effect from September 1, 2023. According to the OTT Rules, now all OTT platforms will have to display side effects warnings of tobacco products along with scenes that contain smoking scenes.
