India Canada Tension: Amidst the tension, India decided to restart visa services, Canada said- ‘This is a good sign’
Canada has welcomed India’s decision to resume some visa services in the country from Thursday, saying the move comes after a “concerning time” for many Canadians amid a diplomatic row over the killing of a Sikh separatist. “Good sign”.
India’s High Commission in Canada on Wednesday said authorities in the country will resume processing certain types of visa applications for Canadians from across the country as well as those applying from abroad.
In a press release posted on its social media account, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said, “After reviewing the security situation in view of some recent steps taken by Canada, it has been decided that from October 26, entry visa, business visa Visa services for , medical visa, and conference visa categories will be resumed.
On Wednesday afternoon, Immigration Minister Marc Miller called India’s move “a good sign” after a “worrying time” for many Canadians. “We believe this suspension should not have happened in the first place,” he was quoted as saying by CTV News.
He said that “the really worrying diplomatic situation with India has created a lot of fear in many communities.”
‘Resumption of visa process is good news’
Emergency Management Minister and Sikh leader Harjit Sajjan said the resumption of visa processing was good news, but he would not speculate on what message New Delhi was trying to send.
“It is good to know that they have restored it (services),” Sajjan told reporters. It would have been better if he had not taken this step. He further said that it is important that Indians and Canadians can travel for events like weddings and funerals.
India declared Nijjar a terrorist in 2020
New Delhi has suspended services for Canadian citizens in Canada and around the world as tensions between the two countries escalated last month after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged the “possible” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh. The decision comes a month after India rejected Trudeau’s allegations as “absurd” and “motivated”. Let us tell you that India had declared Nijjar a terrorist in 2020.
