Uttarakhand: Pauri city will be bypassed, four kilometer long tunnel will be built, now the distance of hours will be covered in a few minutes.

There are preparations to build a bypass to free the historical city of Pauri city of Garhwal division from the traffic jam. For this, a four kilometer long tunnel will be built from a place called Premnagar before Pauri. Which will cross at Ghorikhal ahead of Pauri. This project worth about Rs 800 crore has been given in-principle approval by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The approximately 18 km area from Premnagar to Ghuddauri in Pauri has dense population, narrow market and difficult geographical conditions. Here, the possibility of widening the road was first considered, but around 500 establishments along with all the residences, shops, bus stand, main gate of Lakshmi Narayan Temple and many heritage buildings were coming within its scope.

To save Pauri Bazaar which was coming under the influence of road widening, the then Chief Minister General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri had constructed a six kilometer long bypass near Premnagar years ago. Which approaches from Buakhal. Along with the complete cutting of the bypass road, gravel had also been laid for asphalting. But due to it being a forest area, NGT had banned it. Since then the bypass work could not be completed. Therefore, people are not getting the benefits of this road.
