In Uttarakhand, before Diwali, smugglers’ attention increases on the forests. Due to legends and superstitions, the demand for owls increases and in the greed of getting a huge price, smugglers go to hunt owls in the forests. Actually, on Diwali, due to tantra-mantra with the organs of owls, the price of their organs increases in the market. During this time it is said that the nails, eyes, beak and feathers of the owl are used for tantra-mantra. There is also a superstition among people to prove this Tantra-Mantra on the Amavasya night. Actually, owl is the vehicle of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, hence it is believed that tantric rituals performed with its parts help in acquiring wealth.
Due to superstition, smugglers get rich and also become active in the forests before Diwali. During this time, the species of owls which are being conserved are becoming extinct. An international organization is also working for this and efforts are being made not only in India but all over the world to save the owl species. Dr. Sameer Singh, PCCF Wildlife, Uttarakhand Forest Department, says that all the beliefs and There is mention of owl in legends and in such a situation, every year before Diwali, the forest department comes into alert mode. Besides, separate alerts are also issued for forest personnel in all forest areas. This year also, in view of the same possibilities, apart from the reserve forest, an alert has been issued in various other forest areas also.
