Supreme Court of India is the people’s court, CJI Chandrachud compared it with the SC of America

किसी

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has compared the Supreme Court of India with the Supreme Court of America and called it a people’s court. He says that the US Supreme Court disposes of about 80 cases in a year, whereas this year the Supreme Court of India has disposed of 72,000 cases, demonstrating its commitment to serve the people. He said these things while addressing the session of the fifth and last day of HT Leadership Summit 2023.

Chief Justice Chandrachud also said that judges are guided by constitutional morality and not by public morality. He also talked about values like brotherhood, human dignity, personal morality and equality.

What did you say on the retirement of judges?

Chandrachud also shared his perspective on the retirement age of judges while comparing the Supreme Court of the US and India. Let us tell you that there is no retirement age for judges in the American judicial system. Whereas in India, judges retire. The Chief Justice said, “I think judges should retire. I think it is too big a responsibility to put responsibility on human beings for their own mistakes. Judges are human beings. They are prone to make mistakes. Responsibility It becomes important to hand over to the coming generations.”

How will the number of backward classes and women increase in the courts? There is also an informal process to gain entry into the senior’s chamber. In such a situation, many people are not able to move forward. But I would like to tell you one good thing. More women than men are being appointed to district level courts across India. 70 out of 120 women are appointed in the district courts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. When women are appointed in law firms, there is a mindset that women also have the responsibility of family, children also have to be raised. Unless we change this thinking, improvement is not possible.
