Congress MPs are also in favor of canceling the membership of Mahua, what is written in the Ethics Committee report?
It seems that Mahua Moitra is certain to be punished. The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha on Thursday recommended the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from the lower house of Parliament in the case of ‘asking questions after taking bribe’. The committee headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar held a meeting in which the report of the committee was accepted. After the meeting, Sonkar said that six members of the committee supported accepting the report and four opposed it. It is being told that the committee has recommended the expulsion of Moitra from the Lok Sabha. Now the report will be sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for further action.
Congress MP also against Mahua!
It is noteworthy that among the six members who supported accepting the report, a Congress MP is also included. This is none other than Congress MP Preneet Kaur. Preneet is the wife of former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh. However, Amarinder himself has now joined BJP. The MPs who are in favor of the report include Vinod Sonkar (BJP), Sumedhanand Saraswati (BJP), Hemant Godse (Shiv Sena), Parimaanti Kaur (Congress), Aparajita Sarangi (BJP) and Rajdeep Roy (BJP). While the opposition includes Danish Ali (BSP), V Vaithilingam (Congress), P R Natarajan (CPIM) and Giridhari Yadav (JDU).
Abhishek Banerjee targeted
On the other hand, the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has supported its MP Mahua Moitra. Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee claimed that anyone who questions the government is “harassed” by the central government. Banerjee was speaking to reporters after appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with its investigation into the alleged school job scam in the state. He also questioned how a committee of Parliament could consider taking action against Moitra even before the allegations against her were proven.
TMC’s full support in the fight
Banerjee also questioned whether anyone who is asking questions to the government on the Adani issue is being harassed. How can the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha take any action against Mahua Moitra even before the allegations against her are proved? The TMC party has not yet directly defended Moitra and at one point even said that it would wait for the Ethics Committee report on this issue. At present, Banerjee’s clear support indicates that TMC will extend its full support to MP Moitra in the fight ahead.
‘Without proving the allegations..?
TMC national general secretary Banerjee questioned how action can be initiated against an MP without proving even a single allegation against him. He also said that the committee has not yet taken any action against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, but is very prompt in taking action against opposition MPs who are fighting against the government and its policies. Banerjee questioned how the Ethics Committee could recommend expulsion if they had no evidence.
CPI(M)’s separate claim
However, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) claimed that TMC was shying away from speaking on the controversy related to Moitra because she had spoken against billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Asked why it took several days for the TMC national general secretary to comment after the Moitra issue came to light, CPI(M) Central Committee member Sujan Chakraborty alleged that the ruling party in West Bengal was shying away from speaking on the issue. . He said, ‘Mahua Moitra has spoken against Adani and (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi, so TMC does not want to comment.
Let us inform that in this matter, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Moitra and accused him of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
