Uttarakhand: Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya’s allegation – Silkyara Tunnel case has exposed disaster management at the national level, Yashpal will go to Uttarkashi tomorrow

Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya alleged that the Silkyara Tunnel case has exposed disaster management not only in the state but also at the national level. He said that for the past one week, the people of the country and the opposition were morally standing with the government and the agencies engaged in disaster management in this hour of crisis, but now the dam of patience is breaking. Along with carrying out rescue work, the government will also have to fix accountability. He said that no one should be allowed to experiment with the precious lives of 42 people of the country.

The Leader of Opposition said that it is a very unfortunate situation that the precious lives of 41 people are in danger for a week and still new experiments are being done every day in the name of rescue. He said that the government should clarify whether there was a provision for edit tunnel and escape tunnel for debris removal and rescue in the original project of construction of this approximately 5 kilometer long tunnel or not? If this provision was there in the project and the company was working without adit tunnel and escape tunnel, then a criminal case should also be registered against the company under relevant sections. If these important provisions were not made in the project report, then a criminal case should also be filed against the construction department.

The Leader of Opposition alleged that there has definitely been a disregard for setting standards and safety options in the construction of this huge project, hence now options are being explored after the accident. Whereas while starting the project, safety options should have been established first after geological survey.

The Leader of Opposition alleged that in National Highway projects across the country, very poor work is being done with negligence at very expensive rates compared to the state departments, hence Vasilkyara-like situations are being created. He said that the state government should also put before the public the experience of the government company engaged in the work of tunnel construction and the small company working on the land. He said that preliminary information proves that this accident is the result of negligence and inexperience. Tomorrow the Leader of Opposition will go to Silkyara and take stock of the situation.
