CBI starts investigation into bribery scandal against TMC MP Mahua Moitra

In a major development in the Mahua Moitra Bribery Case, CBI has started investigation against Trinamool Congress MP. CBI has started this investigation on the instructions of Lokpal. He said that the CBI has started a preliminary investigation and based on the results of this investigation, the agency will decide whether a criminal case should be registered against the MP or not. Under preliminary investigation, the CBI cannot arrest any accused or conduct searches, but it can seek information, examine documents and even interrogate the Trinamool MP. This investigation has been started on the basis of the order of the Lokpal, hence the report will be submitted to the anti-corruption body.

In this case, a complaint was filed in the CBI by Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, who alleged that Moitra had taken bribe from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament. Dehadrai had also written to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and based on Dubey’s complaint, Speaker Om Birla had sent the matter to the Ethics Committee. Dubey had also filed a complaint in the Lokpal.

In an affidavit sent to the panel, Hiranandani had alleged that the Trinamool MP, as an MP, had shared her email ID with him so that he could send her information and he could raise questions in Parliament. He claimed that he later gave him his Parliament login and password so that he could post questions directly.

Hiranandani had made serious allegations in the affidavit

Hiranandani had alleged in her affidavit, “Mahua Moitra wanted to quickly earn name at the national level. Her friends and advisors had advised her that the shortest path to fame was to personally attack PM Narendra Modi.” He also said, “Moitra thought that the only way to attack PM Modi was to attack Gautam Adani, because both are from the same state, Gujarat.”

Mamta Banerjee has recently broken her silence on Mahua

This move by CBI comes two days after West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee broke her silence on this controversy. Banerjee had said that a plan is being made to expel Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha, but if this happens then it will be beneficial for Mahua before the 2024 elections. Banerjee had said, “She has planned to drive away Mahua. She will become popular in three months. What she said inside, she will say outside. She will hold press conferences every day. What has she lost?”
