Bought a snake from a snake charmer on the pretext of worship
A police officer said the accused had allegedly purchased the snake from a snake charmer. He had told the snake charmer that he would use the snake for religious purposes. The officer further said that on October 6 last month, he brought a king cobra snake in a plastic jar and left it in that room. His wife and daughter slept in that room. He told that the next morning both of them died due to snake bite. While accused Patra was sleeping in another room.
In connection with the case, Ganjam District Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena said that the police had initially registered a case of unnatural death but the father-in-law of the accused had filed an FIR against him. The accused was interrogated in the case.
The Superintendent of Police further said, “The accused was arrested a month after the incident because there was some delay in collecting evidence against him. During interrogation, he initially denied the allegations and said that the snake might have entered the room on its own. Although he has confessed to the crime.
