Uttarakhand / Haridwar: Be careful! Consumers who steal electricity may face jail

Consumers who steal electricity are no longer in trouble. The latest case is from Haridwar. District Judge Sikand Kumar Tyagi has sentenced the accused to six months’ imprisonment in the case of theft of electricity by putting a cut on the power line.
Consumers who steal electricity are in trouble
According to the information, Special Prosecutor of Energy Corporation KP Sharma said that on May 10, 2012, JE Manoj Kumar Saini of Electricity Department had filed a case of electricity theft in Kotwali Laksar. The complainant had reached Sonali Canal Bridge Kuakheda by vehicle along with Sub Divisional Officer Ajiv Rana and his personnel.
Caught red handed while stealing electricity
On the information of the departmental employees, during the inspection of the power line, they caught Sukhpal resident of Laksar village Mohammadpur red handed while stealing electricity by putting a cable on the power line. On behalf of Sukhpal, theft of electrical load was being done by laying cables on the LT line going from the front of the premises.
Six months imprisonment to the accused
A case was registered against Sukhpal under Section 135 of the Electricity Act. Six witnesses were presented on behalf of the Energy Corporation in the trial related to the case. After hearing both the parties, District and Sessions Judge Sikand Kumar Tyagi found accused Sukhpal guilty of electricity theft and sentenced him to six months simple imprisonment.
