Indonesia: Mount Merapi volcano explodes, 11 climbers killed, many missing

11 climbers have died in the eruption of Mount Merapi volcano in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Relief and rescue teams have recovered the bodies of all 11 climbers. According to the rescue team, three climbers have been found alive near the volcano and many climbers are still missing, who are being searched.

It is being told that a total of 75 climbers were on Mount Merapi on the day of the incident on Saturday. White and gray ash has spread after the volcanic eruption. Due to this, climbers are missing and the surrounding villages have been covered with volcanic ash.

Villages up to 3 kilometers away were evacuated
There are two routes to climb the mountain near the site of the volcano, which have now been closed. Also, the villages located on the slopes up to 3 kilometers away from the mouth of the volcano have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. There is a possibility of lava coming out of the volcano after the explosion.

Ash spread 3000 meters away from the explosion
Many climbers are still reported missing on Mount Merapi, the search for whom is going on. The volcanic eruption has spread ash up to 3000 meters away. The administration has advised people to wear goggles as a precaution. Let us tell you that Mount Merapi volcano has been active since January. However, no damage has been caused so far. There are a total of 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
