Tolerated the sting of being a Dalit all his life

Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was humiliated by his upper caste classmates as a student due to his birth in a Dalit Mahar family of western India. Awarded a scholarship by the ruler, he studied at universities in the United States, Britain and Germany.

He had thought that he would eliminate caste, caste and discrimination. The major contribution of Dr. Ambedkar was to help Dalits get equal rights, status and respect as others in the society. Dr. Ambedkar was one of the first Dalits to receive complete education in India. Because of them many students in India are able to get quality education at low fees. There are people who are economically backward and cannot afford education in a top class institution, but because of Baba Saheb they are also able to get high quality education for their children which will secure the future of India. Today the women of our country who are studying are moving forward. All that is the gift of Baba Saheb.

The whole world has accepted his words, abilities etc. that is why something or the other keeps happening all over the world to honor him.

Street named after Baba Saheb in New York

On June 25 this year, a street in New York City was officially dedicated to the visionary leader Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Thanks to the untiring efforts of Sri Guru Ravidas Sabha and Begumpur Cultural Society of New York, the famous 61st Street Broadway was named after Baba Saheb.

In an exclusive conversation with The Mooknayak, eminent US-based Dalit activist Dilip Mhaske opened up about this remarkable achievement. He commented, “The procedural hurdles were formidable. Since Senate approval was required, the process required waiting patiently for several years. However, our efforts received significant support from a local councilor of Asian descent and, later, Senate members. And Congresswomen rallied behind the issue and pushed it through the Democratic Party. Ultimately, our collective efforts led to success and the road could be named after Baba Saheb.”
