INDW vs ENG: Smriti Mandhana Jemima saved the shame, India hoisted the winning flag in the third T20, England won the series
The Indian women’s cricket team hoisted the winning flag by 5 wickets in the third and last T20 match against England on Sunday. However, the England team was successful in winning the series 2-1. India lost the first match by 38 wickets while the second match by 4 wickets. England set a target of 127 runs in the third T20 played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which India chased in 19 overs. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues saved the team’s honour. For England, Freya Kemp, Sophie Ecclestone took two wickets each and Charlotte Dean took one wicket.
Team India made a bad start while chasing the target. Shefali Verma (6) was out in the third over itself. In such a situation, Mandhana and Rodrigues took charge. Both made a partnership of 57 runs for the second wicket. This partnership broke after Jemimah was out in the 12th over. He scored 29 runs in 33 balls with 4 fours. Mandhana added 26 runs with Deepti Sharma (12) and 18 runs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (8 not out). Mandhana returned to the pavilion in the 17th over. He played an inning of 48 runs in 48 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. Richa Ghosh (2) lost her wicket on the first ball of the 19th over. After this, Amanjot Kaur (10 not out) hit two fours and two singles to lead India to victory.
Earlier, England won the toss and chose to bat and the team scored 126 runs after losing all the wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Renuka Singh (2 wickets for 23 runs) gave success to India in the initial overs. She dismissed openers M Boucher (0) and Sophia Dunkley (11). Saika Ishaq (three wickets for 22 runs) bowled amazingly. He trapped Alice Capsey (7), Amy Jones (25) and Danielle Gibson (0). Jones and captain Heather Knight (52) made a partnership of 41 runs for the fourth wicket. Shreyanka Patil took three wickets for 19 runs. England’s score at one time was 8 wickets for 76 runs. In such a situation, Knight along with Dean (16 not out) added 50 runs for the ninth wicket and took England to a respectable score. Amanjot showed the way to the pavilion for Knight and Deal in the last over.
