Uttarakhand: Garhwal-Kumaon University organized Golden Jubilee Year, CM inaugurated Swarnim Amrit Sandesh Yatra

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Swarnim Amrit Sandesh Rath Yatra’ organized on the golden jubilee year of the establishment of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University and Kumaon University, Nainital, at the CM residence.

CM told the important role of trees
CM Dhami, while congratulating the universities in the ‘Congratulation and Plant Gift Ceremony’ organized by UCOST, said that trees play a big role in making any event memorable. While trees are the basis of life, they are also a symbol of our culture and memory. Both the universities are celebrating their golden jubilee year in an eco-friendly manner.

Donate fifty trees each and plant them
CM Dhami said that both the universities should gift fifty trees to each other and the members of one university should reach the other university and plant fifty saplings. CM said that our youth studying in universities are intellectually alert and intelligent. They play an important role in conveying the message to the people.

CM said that PM Modi has called for a change in the lifestyle of the entire world towards the problems arising from climate change. This Sandesh Yatra will also inspire people to bring changes in their lifestyle towards the environment. This journey will also create awareness among the people about their culture, clean traditions, food habits and dialect.

UCOST Director General Prof. present on the spot. Durgesh Pant said that under this event, CM Dhami’s message will reach the students of both the universities. To make this visit multidimensional and objective, UCOST is also organizing seminars in both the universities.

Lectures by experts will also be given on lifestyle for environment and climate change. He said that the team that will leave for Nainital from Srinagar Garhwal will also take with it Ganga water which will be flowed into Nainital lake after having darshan of Maa Naina Devi in Nainital. Both the universities will also present books of some of their important publications to each other.

There is a need to be aware of the signs of changing climate
Padma Shri Dr. Kalyan Singh Rawat, founder of Maiti Sanstha, who gave shape to the ‘Swarnim Amrit Sandesh Rath Yatra’, said that we now need to be aware of the signs of changing climate. If we don’t wake up still, it will be too late. We have to change our lifestyle by reducing our needs.

This will be the program
Padma Shri Dr. Kalyan Singh Rawat said that in 1998, Maiti Sanstha had organized similar Rath Yatras on the silver jubilee of 25 trees each between the two universities. Under the proposed program, on December 18, the Sandesh Yatra team will leave for Nainital with 50 trees from Garhwal University. Tree plantation and symposium will be organized in Nainital on 19th December. On December 20, 50 trees from Nainital will reach Srinagar Garhwal.
