How many layers of security are there in Parliament?

Two people jumped from the audience gallery of the Lok Sabha during the winter session in the new Parliament House. Flaunting the security arrangements, these people also lit smoke candles in the Parliament House. However, the security personnel took them into custody on the spot. But now the question arises that how did such a lapse occur in the security of Parliament. Let us now tell you who is responsible for the security of the Parliament House and how many layers it consists of.

Parliament is protected in three layers

At present the security of Parliament is being done in three layers. In this, the responsibility of external security is the responsibility of Delhi Police. That means, if someone goes to the Parliament House or someone tries to enter the Parliament House by force, then first of all he will have to face the Delhi Police. After this the second layer is the Parliament Duty Group. The third layer is the Parliamentary Security Service. Parliamentary Security Service is different for Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

How does the Parliament Security Service work?

Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have their own personal Parliament Security Service. Parliament Security Service came into existence in the year 2009. Earlier it was known as Watch and Ward. The job of this security service is to control access to the Parliament and provide security to the Speaker, Chairman, Deputy Chairman and MPs.

At the same time, the work of the Parliament Security Service is to control the crowd among the common people and journalists as well as among the people who are honorable or hold constitutional posts. Apart from this, their job is to correctly identify the MPs entering the Parliament. Frisking their luggage and liaising with the security details of the Speaker, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Deputy Chairman, President etc.
