UCC may be implemented in Uttarakhand in the new year, special session to be held after January 22

Uniform Civil Code (UCC) may be implemented in Uttarakhand in the new year. The state government can call a special session of the Assembly any time after January 22. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has once again hinted at implementing UCC soon. It is believed that the temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya is to be inaugurated on January 22. Amidst this devotion to Ram, Chief Minister Dhami will start the effort to implement UCC.
According to official sources, the expert committee constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai will submit its report to the government in the new year. The expert committee has already indicated that a draft report is ready. The tenure of the committee is also ending in the third week of January. Sources are saying that the special session of Vis can be held between January 27 and February 5. But everything will also depend on the immediate political circumstances.
Will fulfill Vis election promise before Lok Sabha elections
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had promised the people of the state to implement UCC in the state during the 2022 assembly elections. In the first cabinet meeting of his government after taking the reins of power, the first decision Dhami took was regarding UCC. The expert committee was formed on 27 May 2022. The government extended the tenure of the committee several times. Now the tenure of the committee is ending on January 27. Political experts believe that the Chief Minister can fulfill the promise of implementing UCC in the state before the Lok Sabha elections.
CM can give these three big gifts in the new year
Before the Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Minister can give gifts to state agitators, party MLAs and senior leaders and workers. These include the issues of cabinet expansion, allocation of responsibilities and percentage horizontal reservation in government services for state agitators and their dependents. Many senior MLAs of the party are eyeing the four vacant seats in the cabinet. They are hoping for cabinet expansion before the Lok Sabha elections. BJP leadership has also indicated this. Party leaders and workers are also keeping an eye on the allocation of responsibilities. The Select Committee has submitted its report to the Speaker on the issue of horizontal reservation for the state agitators. Now waiting for the assembly session to be called. According to sources, the Chief Minister can also take a decision on these three decisions in the new year.
These may be special provisions in UCC
- Raising the age of marriage for women to 21 years.
- Marriage registration will be mandatory.
- Persons who do not register their marriage will not be able to apply for government facilities.
- Live-in couples have to inform their parents about their decision
- The practice of Halala and Iddat will stop. Polygamy (the practice of having more than one wife) would also be illegal.
- Husband and wife will be given equal right to seek divorce.
- The draft may also contain recommendations regarding population control.
