Uttar Pradesh: The BJP MLA who raped his sister is behind the bars, now I will be able to sleep peacefully – said the victim’s brother

BJP MLA from Duddhi in Sonbhadra district Ramdular Gond (Ramdular Gond News) has been found guilty of raping a minor. He faces a minimum sentence of 20 years, which will be announced on December 15. There is also a crisis in his legislature. This is a big victory for the family of the victim minor. But this fight for justice has not been very easy. The minor’s brother says that the last nine years have been very difficult. But now it is a relief to know that the guilty MLA is now in jail, he will be punished.

Speaking to the newspaper Indian Express, the victim’s brother said, ‘The entire family suffered a lot in the last 9 years. The fight for justice went on for a very long time. But now that the rapist of my sister is behind the bars, I will be able to sleep peacefully.

The victim was only 15 years old then
Nine years ago, when the victim filed a police complaint against Gond, she was only 15 years old. At that time Gond’s wife Surtan Devi was also the head of the village. Today the victim is 25 years old and lives with her husband and in-laws outside Sonbharad.

Gond becomes MLA in 2022
During this trial, Gond’s political stature increased and he became an MLA in the year 2022. The victim’s family says that Ramdular Gond pressurized them several times for a compromise. The victim’s brother (30) said, ‘About one and a half years ago, Ramdular had asked someone to withdraw the case. By then he had become an MLA, so we got scared. He also lured us by giving us Rs 25-30 lakh in return for withdrawing the case. But we refused. He even once asked my sister to withdraw the case. We gave this information to the court.

‘Many false cases filed’
The victim’s brother says, ‘Money cannot buy respect. Even today the family members of Ramdular Gond are threatening us. They say they will take revenge from us. He filed at least three false cases against me and those who helped me. After this, people started hesitant in helping us.’ In 2015, a case was registered against the victim’s brother under SC/ST Act and Goonda Act on behalf of Gonds.

‘Even threatened to murder’
The victim’s family has only one bigha of land. There are four children and parents in the family. The male members work as laborers to support the family. The victim’s family revealed that Gond had raped the victim not just once but several times for a year. Her brother told, ‘My sister was a minor at that time. She was scared of Gond’s dominance. He told my sister that if she told the family about this, he would get all of us killed.

The victim’s brother further said, ‘But on November 4, 2014, when Gond tried to rape her in the fields, she could not bear it anymore. She somehow escaped. He told me everything that happened to him in the last one year. After this, I went to the local police station and lodged a written complaint against Gond.
