Iran hangs ‘Mossad agent’, enmity with Israel at its peak

Iran has claimed to have hanged an agent of Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. Government news agency IRNA reported that an Israeli Mossad agent was hanged on Saturday in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province. The report said that this person had interacted with foreign intelligence agencies, especially Mossad and collected classified information and with the help of his associates shared it with several foreign intelligence agencies including Mossad. The report neither mentioned the name of the hanged person nor gave any information as to which country he was a resident of.

Mossad agent accused of leaking intelligence information

Iranian media reports say only that the accused handed over classified information to a “Mossad officer” for the purpose of “propaganda for groups and organizations opposing the Islamic Republic.” It did not say where the alleged handover took place. It is not clear when the man was arrested, but IRNA reported that the accused’s appeal was rejected by the court.

Death sentence given in Jahedan jail

The sentence was handed down in Zahedan prison in Sistan-Baluchestan, a day after Baloch militants attacked a police station in the province, killing 11 security personnel and injuring several others. According to state television, the attack took place in the city of Rusk. A state funeral was held on Saturday for those killed in the attack. Two terrorists of Jaish-al-Adl group were also killed in these clashes. The impoverished Sistan-Baluchistan province, bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, has long been the site of frequent clashes between security forces and Sunni militants.
