More than 5 crore cases pending in courts across the country, Law Minister made shocking revelations in Parliament

There are more than 5 crore cases pending in courts across the country. There are 80 thousand such cases in the Supreme Court on which no decision has been taken yet, that is, 80 thousand cases are pending in the Supreme Court of the country. Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal has given this information in response to questions regarding the judicial system of the country’s courts.
5,08,85,856 pending till 1st December
The Union minister replied in the Lok Sabha that of the 5,08,85,856 pending cases as of December 1, more than 61 lakh are at the level of 25 high courts, while more than 4.46 crore cases are pending in district and subordinate courts. The Collegium of High Courts has not yet recommended filling the vacancies of 201 judges.

Union Minister Arjun Meghwal said that out of the 123 proposals sent by the High Court Collegium for appointment of judges, 81 are in various stages of processing at the government level. The remaining 42 proposals are under consideration of the Supreme Court collegium. Recommendations from the High Court collegium in respect of 201 vacancies have not yet been received.
He said the total sanctioned strength of judges in the Indian Judiciary is 26,568 and the sanctioned strength of judges in the apex court is 34 and in the High Courts the figure is 1,114 judges. The sanctioned strength of judges in district and subordinate courts is 25,420.
There are many reasons given for cases being pending in the courts of the country. Which includes reasons like death of lawyers and shortage of judges as well as transfer of cases. Due to being financially weak, the victims are not able to pay the fees to the lawyers, due to which the case gets pending.
