Delhi: Passengers kept shouting but the metro did not stop! The woman’s saree got stuck in the door and got dragged for several metres; died a painful death

A woman who was injured and dragged for several meters after her saree and jacket got stuck in the door of Delhi Metro, died. The incident took place on December 14 at Indralok metro station when the woman was traveling with her son from Nangloi towards Mohan Nagar, an official said on Saturday. Initial investigation suggests that the metro door sensor failed to detect the presence of the woman’s clothing, leading to the accident.

Passengers kept shouting, but the metro did not stop

The entire incident happened around 1 o’clock on Thursday afternoon. A woman’s saree got stuck in the gate of the metro at Indralok metro station on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile the train moved ahead. Due to this, the woman kept dragging on the platform for a long distance, after which she finally fell on the track. Seeing this, the passengers kept shouting, but the metro did not stop. The woman fell on the track after hitting the gate at the end of the platform. Due to this the woman suffered serious head injury. After the incident, he was immediately taken to Safdarjung Hospital and admitted to the Neuro Surgery ICU ward.

The woman has been identified as 35-year-old Reena. Reena, originally a resident of Nagloi, Delhi, lived in the area with her two small children. Her husband Ravi died many years ago due to brain tumor. To support her children, she used to sell vegetables at a street vendor in the area.

Metro Railway Safety Commissioner will investigate the incident

DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said, “An incident occurred at Indralok metro station on December 14, where prima facie it appears that the clothes of a woman passenger got stuck in the door of the train. Due to which she got injured. He later died during treatment in the hospital on Saturday.” He further said, “The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will investigate the incident.”
