‘I too have been suffering insults for 20 years’, PM Modi calls Vice President Dhankhar, President also expresses disappointment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed the incident of mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar by MPs as unfortunate. The Vice President has said this by posting on social media. He told that PM Modi has called and expressed grief over this incident. The Prime Minister also said during the conversation that he too has been suffering this kind of insult for the last 20 years. Not only this, President Draupadi Murmu has also called this incident disappointing.

Posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Vice President said, ‘Spoke to PM Modi on telephone. He expressed grief over the disgusting theatrics of some MPs in the sacred Parliament complex. He told me that he has been suffering such insults for the last twenty years. It is unfortunate that this happens in Parliament with a constitutional post like Vice President in India.

The Vice President further wrote in his post, ‘I told him (PM Modi) that the actions of some people cannot stop me from performing my duty and maintaining the principles enshrined in our Constitution. I am wholeheartedly committed to those values. No insult can force me to change my path.

President Draupadi Mumu said- disappointed

President Draupadi Murmu said, ‘I was disappointed to see the way our respected Vice President was insulted in the Parliament complex. Elected representatives should be free to express themselves, but their expression should be within the norms of dignity and decorum. This has been a parliamentary tradition of which we are proud and the people of India expect him to maintain it.

MP did mimicry after suspension

Let us tell you that there was a huge uproar in the winter session of Parliament, after which 141 MPs were suspended due to the uproar. In such a situation, the opposition MPs were protesting sitting outside the Parliament House on 19 December. During this, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicked Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, which enraged the Vice President. Calling the incident shameful, the Vice President said that it is ridiculous and unacceptable that one MP is making fun and another MP is making a video of that incident.

Expressing displeasure over the mockery, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had said, ‘This is not just an insult to a farmer and a community, it is disrespect to the post of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and that too by a member of a political party which has won so many seats. Have ruled for a long time. A senior member of Parliament videographs another member. Why? I tell you I have suffered a lot. On Instagram, Chidambaram ji, your party had posted a video which was later removed, this is shameful.
