Uttarakhand: Send photos of people throwing garbage and get rewards

Now the government will keep an eye on people throwing garbage everywhere in the state through CCTV cameras. Also, those who send photographs or videos of those throwing garbage will be given 50 percent of the challan amount as reward. Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu instructed Urban Development to include it in the plan.
He also asked the department to prepare a model action plan for solid waste management system for effective garbage collection in the entire state within 15 days. He stressed that the entire state should be made dustbin free within the next 15 days. He said that there will be no shortage of budget for this scheme.
The Chief Secretary was reviewing the progress of works under solid waste management in the state at the Secretariat on Tuesday. He said that to achieve the target of 100 percent disposal of solid waste, work should be done towards door to door waste collection, source segregation and dustbin free city. He directed to make an ideal plan to develop a world class solid waste management system in the state.
Instructions to remove legacy waste soon
The Chief Secretary said that after working on the scheme from various schemes, provision will be made from the state budget for gap funding. He also directed to immediately remove legacy waste from various places across the state. Said that after removal of legacy waste, land use plan should be prepared as per the local needs and circumstances so that maximum utilization of the vacant land can be done. Additional Secretary Nitin Bhadauria and Member Secretary Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board Sushant Patnaik and other officials were present in the meeting.
The entire state should be made dustbin free
He said that 100 percent door to door garbage collection will be possible only when the entire state is made dustbin free. For this, whatever amount of garbage collection vehicles will be required, budget will be made available. Besides this, man power will also be increased. He also directed to run a scheme to create awareness among the people. He asked to motivate people for door to door garbage collection. He said that after the removal of dustbins from the roadsides across the state, work should continue to be taken from the vehicles made suitable for lifting dustbins as long as they are running. Keeping this in mind, modification plan of those vehicles should also be prepared.
Emphasis also given on building solid waste management plant
The Chief Secretary also directed to speed up the construction of solid waste management plants. Said that the complete plan should be presented including the date of completion of each level of all the plants. He also directed to conduct third party audit of solid waste management.
