Uttarakhand: Journalists put their problems in front of BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan, expressed hope of solution from the government

In the two-day convention of the District Journalists Association held in Chinyalisaur, where the immense possibilities of tourism in the district were discussed, the issues of problems of journalists also remained prominent. It is known that about 60 journalists associated with the District Journalist Association put forth the problems related to journalists in front of BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan and expressed hope of resolution from the government. As the chief guest, Chauhan assured all the journalists that the state government is very serious on the demands of the journalists. Soon the demands of the journalists will be resolved by meeting the CM.

The organization during this period demanded monthly payment for non-accredited journalists in addition to accredited journalists who are 60 years of age or above. By abolishing the requirement of 15 years of recognition in the pension scheme, journalists who have been recognized for 5 years should get the benefit of pension fund. District Journalist Association President Sunil Thapliyal said that the state government should provide insurance of Rs 50 lakh to the journalists of disaster affected border districts Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh, tehsil and block level journalists should get recognition from the Information and Public Relations Department, 13 districts of the state Journalists should get the facility for free night stay in guest houses and guest rest houses across the state including the capital. He said that due to limited quota in any newspaper or media company, only one or two journalists are able to get recognition. Due to this many media persons are deprived of recognition benefits.

Let us tell you that at present the Uttarakhand government is giving a ‘pension fund’ of Rs 5,000 per month to recognized senior journalists above 60 years of age in the state. District Journalist Association Uttarkashi urged the Chief Minister to also include unrecognized senior journalists aged 60 years and above in the Journalist Pension Fund Scheme. Along with this, the organization demanded that the monthly payment to the current beneficiaries should be doubled to Rs 10,000. It has also been demanded by Surendra Nautiyal, General Secretary of the organization, that after the death of senior journalists, the benefit of pension fund should be given to their dependents or wife, because in such a situation, financial security is very important.
