Uttarakhand: ‘Bring Bill Get Reward’ scheme exposes 18 tax evading firms, GST not paid on sales worth Rs 5 crore

The Tax Department’s ‘Bring Bill Get Reward’ scheme is proving to be a deal of double benefit. Based on the information about the rewards being received by the public and the bills received by the State Tax Department, the department has detected tax evasion of 18 firms of Dehradun, Haridwar, Rudrapur and Haldwani.

GST evading firms busted in Uttarakhand

1500 prizes are being distributed every month to the citizens participating in the Bill Bring Reward Scheme. The State Tax (State GST) Department is getting information about a large number of bills. On the basis of which it is known whether the concerned establishment is depositing tax or not. While examining such bills, the state tax department found out that 18 firms from Dehradun, Haridwar, Rudrapur and Haldwani were evading taxes. The bills of these firms reached the department through customers, but their taxes and returns were not known.

Bring bill, get reward scheme, caught tax evasion

It was found that the GST registration of some firms had been canceled two-three years ago or these firms were not showing the sales in the returns filed. It was also found that some firms were charging GST from customers, but it was not being deposited. After the tax evasion being done by the firms became clear, the department conducted raids on them.

18 firms of Uttarakhand committed tax evasion

Of these, 04 establishments were found in Dehradun, 05 in Haridwar, 05 in Rudrapur and 04 in Haldwani. In the investigation so far, it has been found that they have evaded sales tax worth about Rs 05 crore. These establishments come under the category of hotels, restaurants, garments, daily needs stores. From the spot, officials have seized a large number of income-expenditure and sales documents and other documents, the analysis of which has been started.

GST not paid on sales of Rs 5 crore

The establishments of Haridwar accepted their mistake and surrendered Rs 2.47 lakh on the spot. The process of recovering tax from the remaining amount along with interest and penalty has been started. This action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioners of Kumaon and Garhwal Zone, Rakesh Verma and PS Dungriyal. The team includes Joint Commissioner SIB/Pvt. 70 personnel including Dehradun division SS Tiruva, Dr. Sunita Pandey Haridwar division, Ranveer Singh Rudrapur division, Roshal Lal Haldwani division, Deputy Commissioner Suresh Kumar, Karthikeya Verma, Rajneesh Yashwasthi were involved.

Special vigil on Christmas and New Year

According to Commissioner State Tax Dr. Ahmed Iqbal, the bills uploaded in the Bill Bring Reward Scheme implemented from September 2022 will be investigated by Joint Commissioner SIB/Pvt. And this is being done through Nodal Officer IT. On the basis of which the raids will continue further. He said that in view of Christmas and New Year, special attention is being kept on the events of hotels and restaurants. Wherever suspicion of tax evasion is found, action will be taken.
