Brazil Football: FIFA threatens to suspend Brazilian Football Confederation, know what is the whole matter

World football’s governing body FIFA has warned Brazil that it could suspend its national teams and clubs from participating in international competitions if a new president is elected in January due to interference from its football body. FIFA has written to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) saying it could face suspension if it rushes to hold elections to replace Edmundo Rodriguez as president instead of heeding its appeal to wait.

A Rio de Janeiro court on December 7 removed Rodrigues and all his CBF appointees over irregularities in the football body’s elections last year. Two Brazilian courts upheld the decision last week. FIFA does not accept government or third party interference in the functioning of its member associations and hence five-time World Cup winners Brazil may have to stay out of major competitions until the problem is resolved.
