For the first time in Pakistan, a Hindu woman will contest elections, filed nomination
General elections are going to be held in Pakistan next year in 2024 on 8th February. For the first time in this election, a Hindu woman has filed her nomination papers for the general seat in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to Dawn report, a Hindu woman named Savera Prakash has officially submitted her nomination papers for the general seat of PK-25 in Buner district.
Savera Prakash, a member of the Hindu community, is preparing to contest elections on the ticket of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), following the footsteps of her father. Savera Prakash’s father’s name is Omprakash, who is a retired doctor. He has also previously been a member of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

According to Dawn report, on Monday (December 25), Salim Khan, a local leader of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who is associated with the Qaumi Watan Party. He said that Savera Prakash is the first woman to submit nomination papers for the upcoming elections on the general seat from Buner. Savera Prakash has graduated from Abbottabad International Medical College in 2022. She is working as the General Secretary of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Women’s Wing. Savera Prakash has shown her commitment towards the welfare of the community while working as the General Secretary of the Women’s Wing.
She has worked for the betterment of women. Apart from this, work has also been done to keep the environment clean. She also emphasized the historical neglect and oppression of women in the development sector and she aims to address these issues if elected.
Women candidates on general seats in Pakistan
In an interview given to Dawn, Savera Prakash said that she will follow her father’s footsteps and work for the underprivileged of the area. He submitted his nomination papers on 23 December and expressed hope that the senior leadership of PPP would support his candidature. Savera Prakash, who belongs to a medical family, said that serving humanity is in my blood.
During his medical studies, his dream was to become an MLA. She wants to be able to remove poor management and helplessness in government hospitals. Recent amendments of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) make it mandatory to include five percent women candidates on general seats.
