Corona report of 797 people has come positive in 24 hours across the country, 798 patients have recovered and 5 have died. This many cases of Corona have been registered after 7 months. Earlier on May 19, 2023, 865 cases were reported.
The total number of active cases in the country has reached 4091. That means these patients are currently undergoing treatment. Of these, the maximum number of infected is 2522 in Kerala, 568 in Karnataka and 369 in Maharashtra.
At the same time, the number of patients infected with the new JN.1 variant of Corona has increased to 145. According to reports, most of these patients are in home isolation and the hospitalization rate has not increased.
The first corona positive case in the country was found in February 2020. Since then, 4.50 crore people in the country have been infected with this virus. 4.44 crore have recovered. While 5.33 lakh have died.
Bed reserved in Delhi hospital due to new variant
In view of the increasing cases of new variants of Corona, beds are being reserved in the hospitals of Delhi. After AIIMS, now Safdarjung Hospital has also decided to reserve 50 beds on Thursday (December 28). It was told by the hospital that apart from 50 beds, 9 ICU beds have also been reserved. Besides, oxygen, PPE kit and Covid testing kit have also been ordered from Axis.
Dr. Neeraj Gupta, senior pulmonologist and former HOD of Safdarjung Hospital, said – JN.1 is a variant of Omicron. This is a very mild virus. This virus is like any normal viral infection. We do not think that there will be an increase in patients in the hospital due to this variant.
JN.1 variant spread in 41 countries
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the new JN.1 variant of Corona has so far spread in 41 countries. Cases of JN.1 are highest in France, America, Britain, Singapore, Canada and Sweden. According to official sources, all the cases are of mild symptoms.
WHO has included JN.1 in the ‘Variant of Interest’. WHO said that the analysis so far says that the existing vaccine is completely effective on the JN.1 variant. There is not much danger to people from this.
However, WHO has issued an advisory as a precaution. In this, people have been advised to wear masks in crowded, closed or areas with polluted air. Besides, it has also been asked to maintain necessary distance.
Where did JN.1 variant come from in India?
According to Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the first case of JN.1 variant was reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on December 8. The report of a 79 year old woman came positive. The woman had mild symptoms of influenza-like disease. However later she recovered.
Covid sub-variant JN.1 was first identified in the European country Luxembourg. From here it started spreading to many countries. This sub-variant is linked to the Pirola variant (BA.2.86). It is being said to be dangerous against the immunity of the human body. This is the reason why an alert has been issued regarding the new sub-variant.
The first patient of JN.1 was found in America in September
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had said that as of December 8, the sub-variant JN.1 was responsible for an estimated 15% to 29% of Covid cases in the US. JN.1 patient appeared for the first time in September.
