Preparations in full swing in Uttarakhand for the New Year, parking challenge in Mussoorie and Auli; full hotels

Preparations for New Year celebrations are going on in full swing in Uttarakhand. Tourist places of Garhwal division will be buzzing with tourists on New Year. For this, tourists are continuously making advance booking in hotels, home stays and guest houses. The influx of tourists has started to celebrate the New Year at some tourist places including Auli, Mussoorie. Tourists are arriving. At present the situation is normal in the mountains, but there is a possibility of huge crowd on 30 and 31 December. In such a situation, tourists may have to face problems of parking and traffic jams, especially in Mussoorie, the queen of hills, and Auli, the world famous snow-sports destination. Parking is the biggest problem at most of the tourist places in the state, which also causes traffic jams when the crowd of tourists increases. However, the police and administration are making alternative arrangements. The Tourism Department has also made parking at many tourist places, but some parking is quite far away. This may also cause inconvenience.

Parking capacity of only 2000 vehicles in Mussoorie

There are about 350 hotels in Mussoorie and Dhanaulti, which can accommodate 25 to 30 thousand people simultaneously. More than 75 percent booking has been done in hotels for the New Year. In comparison, Mussoorie has a parking capacity of about 2000 vehicles, while Dhanaulti has a parking capacity of 200 vehicles. People from all over the country travel to Mussoorie for holidays and celebrations.

Crowd exceeds capacity

There is a possibility of crowd gathering beyond capacity on New Year, due to which the parking capacity is bound to be reduced. These days the Winter Line Carnival is also going on, in which people from all over the country are coming. In the past, the pressure of increasing crowd in Mussoorie on New Year has been seen till Dehradun.

Apart from this, the multi-level parking built by the Tourism Department to park 212 vehicles is two km away from the city. In such a situation, tourists hesitate to park their vehicles there. Most of the hotels also do not have parking facilities. In these circumstances, many tourist vehicles remain parked on the road and cause traffic jams.

Vehicular pressure will increase due to closure of ropeway in Auli

To celebrate the welcome of the new year, the influx of tourists has started in Auli of Chamoli district. Most of the hotel rooms are 100 percent booked. There are 25 hotels here, which can accommodate more than a thousand tourists. The parking capacity is 400 vehicles. According to Auli Hotel Association member Ajay Bhatt, this time the parking capacity may be less. The reason is that due to the closure of ropeway operation, most of the tourists will come to Auli in their personal vehicles.

No problem for vehicles in Lansdowne

Tourists have also started gathering in Lansdowne, a famous tourist spot in Pauri district. For New Year celebrations, 80 hotels have been booked up to 95 percent. These hotels have accommodation for 1500 tourists. There is a parking capacity of 300 vehicles here. Along with private parking, parking arrangements are provided in most of the hotels.

Hotel full in Tehri

Welcoming the New Year with water sports in Tehri Lake has its own joy. The area around the lake will be buzzing with tourists on New Year. There is accommodation for 2500 tourists in 180 hotels. 95 percent of these hotels are booked for New Year celebrations. There is a parking capacity of about 400 vehicles here, which is sufficient.

Parking capacity is limited in Harsil

Tourists are excited to enjoy the snowfall along with welcoming the new year in Harsil of Uttarkashi district. For this, tourists are continuously making advance booking in hotels. There is expected to be a good influx of tourists here on 30th and 31st December. 80 hotels in Harsil have the capacity to accommodate 2500 tourists. But, the parking arrangement is for only 300 vehicles.

Shortage of hotels in Chakrata

Chakrata area of Dehradun gives a different experience to the wanderer. This area remains crowded with tourists on New Year due to the expectation of snowfall. There is adequate parking arrangement here, but there are limited places for tourists to stay. There are 30 hotels in Chakrata, which can accommodate one thousand tourists. Up to 85 percent of the hotels have been booked for the New Year. There is parking arrangement for 200 vehicles here.
