Russia’s biggest air attack on Ukraine since 2022, more than 100 missiles fired; 12 died

A fierce war has been going on between Russia and Ukraine for more than one and a half years. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have informed that the Russian army has targeted residential buildings in Kiev with missiles. 12 civilians died in this, while dozens of people were injured. The city’s military administration said 10 people were buried under debris in the capital. At the same time, the governor said that a maternity ward was damaged in the city of Dnipro but there was no news of any casualties.

President Zelensky claims – about 110 missiles were fired
“Russia attacked with everything it has in its arsenal,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram messenger. About 110 missiles were fired, most of which were shot down.

Biggest attack since war began: Ukrainian Air Force commander
Air Force Commander Mykol Oleshchuk, on Telegram messenger, called it the biggest air strike since Russia’s invasion in 2022. Army Chief General Valery Zaluzhny said that important infrastructure, industrial and military establishments were targeted in the attack. There was no immediate comment from Russia.

Power cuts in many parts of the country
The Energy Ministry reported power outages in areas of southern Odessa, northeastern Kharkiv, central Dnipro Petrovsk and central Kiev. Ukraine has been warning for weeks that Russia could be stockpiling missiles to launch a major air attack on the country’s energy system. Last year, millions of people were plunged into darkness when Russian forces attacked the power grid.

How many people died in which part of Ukraine?

Two killed, schools damaged in Lviv and Kharkiv
The presidential office said the missile strike hit an unidentified critical infrastructure in the Lviv region bordering NATO member Poland. One person was killed in a damaged multi-storey residential building in the city of Lviv, the regional governor said. The mayor said three schools and a kindergarten were also damaged. A warehouse, industrial facility, a medical facility and a transportation depot were damaged in the missile attack in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, the regional governor said. He said one person died and 11 others were injured. The interior minister said missiles were fired at several infrastructure facilities in the south-eastern city of Zaporizhia, killing one person.
