How dangerous is the new Covid variant Jn.1? Experts said – elderly and people suffering from other diseases should wear masks

However, he says there is no need to impose public health measures right now. According to Union Health Ministry data, there are 45 under-treatment cases of Covid in Delhi. So far, one case of the ‘JN.1’ sub-variant has been reported in the national capital.

What did doctors say on JN.1 variant?

Dr. Sumit Ray, medical director of Holy Family Hospital, said, “We are seeing more cases of influenza and H1N1 patients who have severe lung problems. The Covid cases that we have seen in our hospital have been incidentally detected. People who were admitted with coronavirus infection mainly had chronic lung or kidney disease, he said. ” Dr. Ray said that 11 Covid patients were admitted to the hospital in December but no such patient died. Noting that no public health measures are needed at the moment, Dr. Ray said, “The role of public health systems is to keep track of the infection and maintain surveillance.” He said young and healthy people should enjoy the festivities, but vulnerable populations should follow safety measures.

How dangerous is the new variant?

Dr. Jugal Kishore, Director and Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Safdarjung Hospital, said that ‘JN.1’ is a sub-form of Omicron. He said, “There is nothing to worry about.” In people suffering from other diseases, any infection can be a factor in exacerbating existing problems. People who have pre-existing diseases should wear a mask when leaving the house. But for healthy people, I would not recommend it.” Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of Loknayak Jayaprakash (LNJP) Hospital also said that there is no need to panic. He said, “It (JN.1) is a sub-format of Omicron. Symptoms are mild and rarely do people develop serious infections. However, people who have diabetes, liver disease or those who are on dialysis should get tested if they notice symptoms.” He said, “If your immunity is weak, you should wear a mask while going to crowded places or hospitals. Opt for a balanced diet including fruits.”
