Uttarakhand: Meeting of Journalist Welfare Fund Committee concluded under the chairmanship of Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari, agreement reached to provide financial assistance to the dependents of 5 journalists

On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, a meeting of the Journalists Welfare Fund Committee was held under the chairmanship of Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari at the Directorate of Information, Ring Road, Dehradun on Friday (December 29, 2023).
During the meeting, the committee agreed to provide financial assistance to the dependents of a total of 5 journalists from the Journalist Welfare Fund (Corpus Fund). Also, it has been agreed to give pension to 3 senior journalists under “Chief Minister Journalist Samman Pension Scheme”.
It is noteworthy that Journalist Welfare Fund (Corpus Fund) was established in the year 2008 for the journalists and dependents of deceased journalists. At present, an amount of about ₹ 24 lakh is deposited in the form of interest earned from the principal amount of ₹ 7 crore of Journalist Welfare Fund (Corpus Fund) and FD of ₹ 1 crore 25 lakh. Financial assistance is being given to journalists and their dependents from the amount of interest earned from the principal amount of the Corpus Fund and at present a pension of ₹ 8-8 thousand per month is being paid to 15 eligible journalists of the state.
During this, Additional Director Information Ashish Kumar Tripathi, Finance Controller Shashi Singh, Dr. BD Sharma, Dinesh Joshi, Nisha Rastogi, Deen Dayal Mittal were present as members of the committee.
