Uttarakhand: Youth initiative to stop migration, 90 percent vacant village repopulated

To stop migration in Uttarkashi district, the youth took such an initiative that 90 percent of the vacated village was completely populated. This initiative of the youth is being praised everywhere.

Bearing the brunt of migration, the mountains are continuously becoming empty
In the frontier district Uttarkashi, almost every village is becoming vacant in the name of education and employment. If you go to any village you will see vacant houses. This is the story of almost every village in the mountains. People here are migrating for education and employment. Villages are becoming vacant day by day. Due to migration, hundreds of villages in Uttarakhand have become ghost villages.

Youth’s initiative to stop migration bore fruit
After Covid in Uttarkashi, people who had migrated from every village returned back to the village and stayed in the village for almost two years. There was farming in the village but there was a problem of money because without money it was difficult to do any work. In such a situation, the youth of Gorsad village of Gajna Patti, a remote area of Uttarkashi district, considered the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and experimented with adding local products to the livelihood of the local people by launching the village’s local products in the market.

Gave employment to the entire village
Today, through Udgam Society, the people here took the risk of selling the local products in the market by creating a brand under the name Valeno. After facing many problems in the beginning, today the women and youth of the village are getting employment sitting at home. The demand for local jam, tomato sauce, Lingde pickles, Timle pickles, chilli sauce made from local chillies and malt juice made by these villagers is increasing in the country as well as abroad.

PM Modi also mentioned the youth initiative
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Dehradun during the Global Summit in Uttarakhand, he also mentioned the initiative of these youth. The biggest thing is that 35 percent of the population of this village, which had migrated by 90 percent, has returned to the village.

Along with this, after this initiative, the feeling of self-employment is also awakening among the youth here. In such a situation, if the government cooperates with youth like these in stopping migration from the villages of Uttarakhand, then the day is not far when the villages which are facing the brunt of migration will start getting populated again.
