‘The size of Lakshadweep is small, but the hearts of the people here are big…’, said PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Muslim-dominated Lakshadweep on Wednesday. During this he said that this archipelago is small, but it has a big heart. PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects worth Rs 1,150 crore in the Union Territory. PM Modi said that he is overwhelmed by the love and blessings he is receiving in Lakshadweep.
PM Modi launched the projects at a ceremony attended by hundreds of islanders, including women and children. Addressing the gathering after launching the projects, PM Modi took a dig at the previous non-BJP governments at the Center and said that their only priority for decades was the development of their own political parties.
Targeted at previous governments
The Prime Minister said that no attention was paid to far-flung states, border areas or inter-sea areas. Elaborating on the steps taken by his government for the development of such areas, PM Modi said that in the last 10 years, our government has made border areas and seaside places its priority.
Internet speed will increase 100 times
PM Modi said that in 2020 he had guaranteed that fast internet facility will be available within the next 1 thousand days. Today Kochi-Lakshadweep Submarine Optical Fiber Project has been inaugurated. Now, internet will be available in Lakshadweep at 100 times higher speed. Let us tell you that PM Modi had announced this project in his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort in Delhi in August 2020. This transformative initiative aims to overcome the challenge of slow internet speeds in Lakshadweep. According to officials, as a result the internet speed in the islands will increase from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps i.e. more than 100 times.
Lakshadweep connected through optical fiber
He said Lakshadweep is now connected through submarine optical fiber cable, which marks a significant change in communication infrastructure. He said that this will increase internet services, telemedicine, e-governance, education, digital banking, use of currency and literacy in the islands.
LTTD plant also inaugurated
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat, which will produce 1.5 lakh liters of clean drinking water every day. Additionally, he dedicated to the nation Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to all households in Agatti and Minicoy islands.
Foundation stone laid for these projects
Other projects launched by PM Modi include the solar power plant in Kavaratti, which is the first battery supported solar power project in Lakshadweep. He also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the primary health facility at Kalpeni and construction of five model Anganwadi centers (Nand Ghar) in the five islands of Androth, Chetlat, Kadmat, Agatti and Minicoy.
