Wrestling: After protest by junior wrestlers, Under-15, Under-20 nationals announced
The effect of the strike by junior wrestlers has been seen in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The ad-hoc panel, which is temporarily managing the affairs of Indian wrestling, on Wednesday announced the holding of the Under-15 and Under-20 National Championships within six weeks. Just hours before this, junior wrestlers had protested at Jantar Mantar demanding dissolution of the ad-hoc panel.
The panel acknowledged the concerns of young wrestlers who have been deeply affected by the year-long protests by India’s top wrestlers. Wrestling activities in the country have been badly affected following the protests by the country’s top three wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Neither national camps nor junior nationals have been held since January 2023. An entire year of hundreds of junior wrestlers was wasted due to the impasse. Chairman of the three-member panel, Bhupender Singh Bajwa assured the junior wrestlers that he would soon organize Sub Junior and Junior Nationals in Gwalior.
Bajwa said in a statement, “The committee acknowledges the concerns raised by the young wrestlers and is committed to addressing the issues. The committee is planning to organize the National Championships for Under-15 and Under-20 categories within the next six weeks at LNIPE, Gwalior.” “Planning to organize.”
“The ad-hoc committee reaffirms its full commitment to the development of wrestling in India and to foster a culture of excellence and perseverance. Young wrestlers are advised to continue training and practicing for these competitions,” the statement said. ” The ad-hoc panel was formed on December 27 after the ministry suspended the newly elected body led by Sanjay Singh.
