Enemies will miss sixes on the border… Will destroy everything at a distance of 6 KM, indigenous missile will become the strength of the army

The central government is continuously making tireless efforts to strengthen the army. In this series, India is soon preparing to test its own human-portable air defense missile system, which will destroy enemy planes, drones and helicopters at very short distances. At present the Defense Force is using similar Russian missiles. Through such missiles, efforts are being made to overcome the operational shortcomings in the ongoing military confrontation with China in eastern Ladakh.

Times of India quoted an official as saying, ‘Very Short Range Air Defense System (VSHORDS) developed by DRDO to neutralize low altitude air threats at ranges up to 6 km will be tested for the armed forces by April-May. He said, “The indigenously developed fourth generation VSHORADS is technologically superior to the existing MANPADS (Man-Portable Air Defense System) in the Indian Armed Forces. Because it has a state-of-the-art uncooled imaging infrared seeker.”

The Defense Acquisition Council, led by Union Minister Rajnath Singh, had in January last year given “approval of requirement” for the procurement of infrared homing VSHORADS missiles, designed and developed by DRDO, at a cost of Rs 1,920 crore. “Once VSHORADS successfully completes user-testing, which will take some time, bulk production can be done,” the official said.

Parallelly, some Indian companies are working on the development of “Laser-Beam Riding VSHORADS” under the “Make-II” category project, where the prototype development is funded by the industry. VSHORADS provides a low-cost option that can be rapidly deployed for close air defense protection of critical assets in rugged high altitude areas as well as in the maritime domain. “They have proven their operational versatility and usefulness during the Russia-Ukraine war,” an official said.
