Israel’s Mossad or someone else… The death of 103 people in Iran poses a threat of war breaking out in the entire region
101 people have been killed in two bomb blasts in Kerman city of Iran on Wednesday. The blast occurred when people had gathered near the grave of former Iranian Revolutionary Guards general Qasim Suleimani on his fourth death anniversary. America has pointed fingers towards Islamic State or other fundamentalist Sunni ideological organizations for this blast. Iran has accused Israel of this horrific attack. The blast has sent war clouds looming across West Asia but it is still unclear who is responsible for the twin bomb blasts that hit a crowd in the south-eastern Iranian city of Kerman.
According to the Guardian report, America is indicating that Islamic State or its affiliated Sunni groups are behind this attack. Unlike US and British officials, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi directly blamed Israel and warned that it would have to pay a price, but Raisi did not talk about immediate action. Talking about Israel, it has not wanted to get involved in direct conflict with Iran. It has had clashes with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthi rebels in Yemen but has not shown any eagerness to fight Iran directly.
Who is behind Iran’s attack?
The US has foiled attacks by Iran-backed Houthis in recent days. Israel has also kept the Lebanon border under control to a great extent. Meanwhile, it is impossible to know how the escalating incidents since the October 7 attack by Hamas in southern Israel are affecting Iran. On 25 December, a senior Revolutionary Guards commander was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Damascus. After this, Hamas’s deputy political leader, Saleh al-Arouri, was killed in an Israeli drone attack on Beirut on Tuesday. Hezbollah has vowed to take revenge. On the other hand, diplomats in Washington said that the Lebanese Embassy in Washington has assured the Biden administration that Hezbollah will not show large-scale resistance.
Israel is also looking quite aggressive since October 7. The Israelis are no longer prepared to tolerate the enemy’s presence in Gaza. Netanyahu is not listening as much as everyone expected, one European diplomat said. For Netanyahu, the war is an opportunity to make amends and compensate for October 7. If seen, many things are going on in Israel, Iran, America. Amidst all this, many claims are being made about who is behind Iran’s attack but no one has anything concrete.
