Uttarakhand: Banned Kajal wood caught by Forest Department in Uttarkashi, three smugglers caught

The Forest Department team has arrested three smugglers with banned Kajal wood during checking on Gangotri Highway. The incident is being reported at Gangori Barrier at 5 am on Thursday.

During checking, the Forest Department team arrested three people with two hundred pieces of banned Kajal wood. The accused have been identified as Rishi (28) son of Surendra, resident of Rishikesh, Sohan (35) son of Pyarelal, resident of Rishikesh and Lalit Singh (37), resident of Dharipur.

Criminal history of the accused is being investigated
The accused told during interrogation that they were taking the wood to Saharanpur. The Forest Department has started investigating the criminal records of smugglers. According to the information, DFO DP Baluni said that three people have been arrested with pieces of banned Kajal wood. Action will be taken against the accused as per rules.

Highest demand is in Nepal
It is noteworthy that this wood is found only in some places of Uttarkashi district. Due to it being valuable, utensils etc. are produced from this wood. The demand for this Kajal wood is highest in India’s neighboring country Nepal. After the kajal wood reaches there, its ‘bowls’ are made. This bowl is then sold in other countries at a high price of lakhs of rupees per bowl.
